Broadloom Carpet

To create various textures and patterns

Broadloom carpet is a type of carpet that is made from long, continuous rolls of carpet material. The fibers in broadloom carpet can be made from various materials, such as wool, nylon, polyester, or a combination of materials, and they can be cut and woven in different ways to create various textures and patterns.

Constructions

There are several construction methods used to make broadloom carpet, each with its own unique look and feel. Here are some of the most common constructions:

Cut Pile

This type of carpet has a smooth surface with tufts of fibers cut at the same height, creating a soft and plush feel.

Loop Pile

This type of carpet has a flat, dense surface with loops of fibers that are left uncut. This construction is durable and often used in high-traffic areas.

Cut and Loop Pile

This type of carpet combines the features of cut pile and loop pile, with a combination of cut and looped fibers. It offers a unique look and texture, and is often used to create intricate designs.

Saxony

This type of carpet is known for its smooth surface with a uniform appearance, created from non-textured fibers cut at the same height. They are popular in residential settings due to their comfort and their low light reflection.

Cut Pile Textured

This type of carpet has a luxurious, plush feel, with a soft and dense surface created by twisted fibers. It is often used in bedrooms and other low-traffic areas.

Berber

This type of carpet is known for its distinctive look, created by large, chunky loops of fibers in a variety of natural colors. It is durable and often used in low to medium traffic areas.

The construction method used to make broadloom carpet will affect its look, feel, and durability. Choose a construction that fits your needs and personal preferences for a carpet that will look great and last for years to come.

Fiber Types

Carpet fibers are the building blocks of carpet, and the type of fiber used will affect the appearance, durability, and performance of the carpet. Three of the most common carpet fibers used in homes are nylon, polyester, and polypropylene.

Nylon

Nylon is a strong, durable, and versatile fiber that is resistant to wear, staining, and fading. It is often used in high-traffic areas and is known for its soft feel and good resiliency. It is also the most recommended fiber type for commercial spaces.

Polyester

Polyester is a lightweight and soft fiber that is known for its bright and vivid color options. It is often used in low to medium traffic areas and is less durable than nylon. However, it is more stain-resistant, easier to clean and is softer than other fibers.

Polypropylene

Polypropylene, also known as olefin, is a synthetic fiber that is known for its resistance to moisture, stains, and mildew. It is often used in outdoor and light commercial carpet applications, and is less expensive than nylon and polyester.

In conclusion, each type of fiber has its own strengths and weaknesses, and the fiber you choose will depend on the location and use of the carpet, as well as your personal preferences and budget. Choose a high-quality fiber that will provide the performance and appearance you want for your home.

Advantages

Carpet is a popular floor covering choice for many homeowners due to its comfort, warmth, and versatility. Here are some of the key advantages of carpet:

Comfort

Carpet provides a soft and cushiony surface underfoot, making it a comfortable option for areas where you spend a lot of time, such as bedrooms and living rooms.

Warmth

Carpet is an excellent insulator and can help keep your home warm in the winter months, reducing electricity bills. It is also a good option for rooms with concrete or tile floors that can be cold to the touch.

Sound absorption

Carpet helps absorb and reduce noise, making it a good choice for homes with hard surface flooring, such as hardwood or tile.

Safety

Carpet provides a slip-resistant surface and can help prevent slips, trips, and falls, especially for young children and the elderly. Furthermore, thanks to its shock absorption, carpet also cushions falls and helps limit damage to muscles and articulations.

Style

Carpet is available in a wide variety of colors, textures, and patterns, making it easy to find a style that complements your home décor.

Affordability

Compared to other flooring options, carpet is often more affordable, making it a cost-effective choice for many homeowners.

Carpet offers many advantages that make it a great choice for your home. From comfort and warmth to safety and style, carpet is a versatile and practical option that can meet your flooring needs and enhance the look and feel of your home.

Installation tips

Consider carpet your final touch!

Before installation, all other remodeling intended in the room should be completed, such as painting or wallpapering. Check the clearance at the bottom of doors to be sure they will swing freely over the new carpet and cushion. If the doors do not clear, arrange to have them trimmed. Most installers will not be able to do this for you.

Installing carpet requires skill and relying on the expertise of a professional installation team will ensure satisfaction of your carpet for years to come.

In most cases, the retailer will handle all the details of arranging the installation. Some may staff their own installation team or some may recommend an independent installer.

Be sure to ask the retailer about additional services such as removal and disposal of older flooring and moving furniture.

Care and Maintenance

There are four simple tips to keep your carpet beautiful.

Use entrance mats

Place walk-off mats inside and outside entrances to your home to trap soil before it can be tracked in. Be sure to clean mats weekly to ensure they don’t become soil sources. Avoid latex-backed runners which may yellow the carpet.

Vacuum regularly

Regular, thorough vacuuming will remove dust and gritty dirt particles and reduce the abrasion that can dull and wear carpet fibers. A rotating brush power-head vacuum raises the carpet pile while it removes the soil. Change the vacuum bag often. To reduce matting, change the direction of vacuuming occasionally.*

Clean up spills immediately

Prompt attention to spots and spills will make removal easier. Always blot the area being cleaned, never rub, scrub or brush.

Schedule professional cleanings

Choose a qualified cleaning service, experienced in the latest techniques for advanced generation fibers and have your carpet professionally cleaned every 12-18 months (keep all receipts for proof of cleaning). High traffic areas and lighter carpet colors may require cleaning more often. Hot water extraction is the preferred method, using products which are non-cationic and have a pH level less than 10. Non-approved cleaning products or treatments will void your warranty.

* Attention: some vacuums have aggressive brushes that may damage the pile surface. Refer to the Carpet and Rug InstituteTM for approved vacuum cleaners and details.
